DIANA CHRISTINE

Cardinals are symbols of happiness and joy for me, and they also symbolize departed loved ones for many people. My backyard is filled with cardinals, trees and flowers--I am inspired by them every day. The trees, blooms and cardinals in this series have been collaged using my photographs of beautiful places in Jacksonville that have always inspired me--the Cummer Museum's gardens and the Southbank Riverwalk downtown. 20 x 20 Acrylic, pastels and collage on canvas. MESSENGER

BONEYARD BLOOM

Boneyard Bloom is collaged with reproductions of bone study pieces I did in an intensive and inspiring 2019 art workshop with Louise Freshman Brown. I drew and painted deer skulls and antlers over and over again, using a fractured space technique that Louise teaches masterfully. These pieces proved to be perfect petal collage material as I worked on this bloom series; I love the dichotomy of life and death imagery in this piece. Both the bones and the flower elements are beautiful in different ways, representing the full spectrum of the life cycle and transformation to what lies beyond. 22.25 x 30 Acrylic, wash, pastel and collage over monoprint on BFK Rives. BLOOM DESIRED

My photograph of the Cummer Museum's statue of Diana is at the heart of this piece. To me, Diana represents female strength and beauty; her ties to nature, animals and the moon inspire me. This piece is collaged with my photographs of the Cummer Museum's gardens and the Riverwalk and Main Street Bridge in Downtown Jacksonville. 22.25 x 30 Acrylic, wash, pastel and collage over monoprint on BFK Rives.
